The Mennonite Centre in Ukraine
Architecture
The renovation images of the schoolhouse in Molochansk/Halbstadt
appear on this page.
Winnipeg architect Rudy Friesen generously supervised
the project on a volunteer basis
The work in Ukraine was expertly supervised by Sergei
Letkemann
Here are Rudy's photos of the work in progress as
of late July, 2001
and here is how the wonderful new Centre looked in May 2002 - photos by
Walter Unger
please note the handicap ramp
Putting the last touches to the elegant new fence and gate posts
The kitchen and (small) dining areas are well designed and easy to maintain
The Centre hosts the first regional medical training conference in mid-May,
2002
The Molochansk Mennonite Centre has become an effective training Centre
for the former Molochna area
It is warm, beautiful, bright and efficient - a beacon of hope and progress
It has a superb computer training facility and a seminar room for 50 to
60 persons
The administrative area will shortly house a comprehensive medical library
(most of us would like an office like this)
Thank you Rudy, thank you Sergei, for this splendid architectural
and design achievement which captures and celebrates the essence of the brilliant
achievements of the former Mennonite presence in Ukraine.
The Halbstadt Maedchenschule (Girls School) lives, teaches and sings
again!
